Are has been selected as the HEPAC contractor for the new central laboratory building at Neste Oil's Porvoo refinery. It will begin work during January and the HEPAC project is scheduled for completion in March 2010. The floor area of the new central laboratory is some 6,000 square meters.
"The HEPAC project for the laboratory is technically very challenging compared to, for instance, a conventional office building," says Matti Sainio, Neste Oil's Project Manager. “The ventilation plant covers 1 000 square metres and contains a lot of very modern technology. The competitive strengths that Are brings to this project include its proven ability to manage large projects and its very competent site supervision and personnel. What's more, the subcontractors chosen will complement Are’s own personnel very well," continues Sainio.
The new central laboratory will analyse samples from fuels and gaseous substances to ensure that Neste Oil's tight quality criteria are met. Are will supply the new building’s water and sewage systems, heating and cooling systems (including cooling equipment arrangements) and all ventilation systems. Are will also supply special pipes for the solvent water and ionic exchange water systems.
"We've had good experience of working with Are, and I'm certain it will deliver high quality and stay on schedule," says Sainio.
"We’re very pleased to be able to do the HEPAC work on such a demanding and interesting construction project,” explains Are’s Kari Okka. “The ventilation system for the new laboratory has to meet strict standards because of the work carried out here once it's complete. For instance, only explosion-protected ATEX devices are used in the exhaust air arrangements, and only acid-resistant steel can be used for the exhaust ducts."
Are is currently doing the HEPAC work for building ‘H’ of the technology centre at Neste Oil's Porvoo refinery, and this is due to be completed in spring 2009.
