Are selected as the ventilation and electrical contractor for the extension of Tamro’s distribution centre in Tampere

Tamro is about to embark on a project to extend its pharmaceutical distribution centre in Tampere. The work will start this April and should be completed in spring 2012. In the project, about 11,000 m2 will be added to a facility that already has a total area of 9,900 m2.

The extension will be constructed as a high bay warehouse incorporating a number of novel solutions that help to ensure a high level of drug safety, automation, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. For example, heating and cooling will almost entirely rely on ground source heat. The building will also be equipped with advanced LED lighting technology and motion sensors, allowing efficient optimisation of the lighting.
Are will be responsible for the ventilation and electrical contract of the extension. “I’m really pleased that Tamro has decided to rely on our expertise in such an important and demanding project. In a pharmaceutical warehouse, both ventilation and electrification must meet particularly stringent requirements. In order to ensure uninterrupted operations, the new facility will have extensive emergency backup systems. A high bay warehouse also poses challenges for our installation teams,” explains Erkki Laitala, Business Line Director at Are.
An average of 45 per cent of all pharmaceuticals used in Finland pass through Tamro’s distribution centre in Tampere. “We require from our construction partners excellent performance, a high level of precision and familiarity with the requirements of the sector. Ensuring drug safety in all circumstances requires comprehensive condition monitoring. Ventilation and electrification are essential for our operations. Are can meet these demands and it also understands that buildings must nowadays be more energy-efficient than before,” says Aki Koskinen, Logistics Director at Tamro.
