On 30 June 2017, Are and the City of Helsinki agreed on heating, piping, air conditioning and automation (HPACA) work for the renovation of the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. The value of the agreement exceeds EUR 15 million and the work will be carried out as a project management contract.
“When we selected a HPACA contractor, the quality score played a significant role. The professionalism and expertise of Are’s personnel convinced us. Our partners must have sufficient resources to ensure that the modernisation proceeds as scheduled. The site is significant and in many ways demanding – we trust in Are’s capability to carry out the work as agreed,” says Jukka Forsman, Construction Contracting Manager at the City Environment Division of the City of Helsinki.
“The Olympic Stadium is an interesting and highly regarded landmark in Helsinki. It’s a great honour for us to participate in modernising the Olympic Stadium for future needs,” states Are’s CEO Heikki Pesu.
In the renovation project, 19,290 gross m² of new space will be built at the Olympic Stadium. In addition, the spectator areas, the field and the tracks will be renovated. The entire area of the project, including the field and the spectator areas, is 90,000 m². It is estimated that in the future the Olympic Stadium will attract approximately one million visitors a year. The renovated Olympic Stadium will open its doors in 2019.
