Are continues to invest in Sweden

Finland’s leading technical building services company Are acquiring Climat80 Gruppen, one of the leading technical building services companies in Southern Sweden. With the acquisition, Are becomes a major player in the Swedish market, offering a full range of technical building services for the entire life-cycle of a property, says Are’s CEO Heikki Pesu.

Technical building services company Are has invested in long-term profitable growth. The acquisition of Lemminkäinen Talotekniikka Ltd in 2014 more than doubled Are’s combined staff and turnover. Last year, Are expanded to Sweden by acquiring the family business Kungälvs Rörlaggeri. With the acquisition of Climat80 Gruppen, Are now has operations in 10 locations in Sweden, employing nearly 650 technical building services professionals and reaching EUR 111 million in total turnover.

Climat80 Gruppen is a technical building services group operating in Southern Sweden in the cities of Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg. The group employs 400 technical building services professionals, with a turnover of approximately EUR 66 million. Through the acquisition, Are’s service offering in Sweden, which previously covered expertise in plumbing and electrics, now also includes ventilation, cooling and property services. The share of maintenance services from the total turnover of Climat80 Gruppen is significant.

“From the beginning, our goal has been to offer the full range of technical building services in Sweden as well. This includes solutions and services for the full life cycle of properties, from the initial construction phase and maintenance to modernisation and renovation. We are very impressed by the expertise of Climat80 Gruppen’s personnel. By combining our two companies’ skills and knowledge, we will become an even stronger and more versatile operator in the Swedish market,” says Are’s CEO Heikki Pesu.

In addition to being family-owned, both companies have a long and successful history. Climat80 Gruppen has focused on profitable growth for more than 30 years.

“It was important for us to find an owner, who is willing to commit to long-term business development and maintaining our agility, which is very characteristic of us as a company,” says Mats Mårtensson, founder and board member at Climat80 Gruppen.

The company will continue its operations independently, as part of Are. The acquisition will not have any impact on personnel, nor will it bring any changes to the management currently in place. Climat80 Gruppen will continue to be led from Sweden.

“It is great to be able to continue on our path of profitable growth, under the protective wings of Are. We have many basic values in common, and a strong desire to keep creating something new. I believe that our co-operation will help accelerate our growth in the Nordic countries and open up new opportunities for both our employees and our customers,” says Climat80 CEO Thomas Sjöberg.

The acquisition is pending the approval of the Swedish Competition Authority.
