Are Group chosen as electrical contractor for West Metro’s Keilaniemi station
Are will be responsible for project management and planning of the electrical installation work at Keilaniemi station, which covers not only the main electrical work but also the lighting and safety and backup systems. Are is also responsible for the electrical contract for the tunnels on the 13.6 km route from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä.
“The West Metro electrical contract is an opportunity to combine our strong technical expertise with the project management experience we have gained from special projects,” says Pepe Perkiö, Are’s Business Area Director.
Keilaniemi station is on a narrow strip of land between two roads, Karhusaarentie and Keilaniementie, next to the Fortum head office building and in the vicinity of other multi-storey buildings. A number of major companies are based in the area, and there are plans to build high-rise properties over the station and other buildings nearby. About 10,000 metro passengers will use Keilaniemi station every day.
The station will have two separate entrance structures (the southern main entrance and a northern entrance), which will also incorporate commercial premises. The ticket halls will be located on an underground floor, from where passengers will be able to access the station platforms via the lifts and escalators. The platforms will be about 20 metres below ground level.
The West Metro extends the metro line westwards from Ruoholahti via Lauttasaari to Espoo, where the terminus will be in Matinkylä. It will carry more than 100,000 passengers per day. Finland’s largest infrastructure project, the construction of the West Metro employs thousands of people and comprises seven new stations and two parallel tunnels almost 14 kilometres in length.
