Are Group selected as electrical contractor for renovation of Koukkuniemi Home for the Elderly

The construction work is expected to start in June 2012 and to be completed in autumn 2013.

The Koukkuniemi Home for the Elderly is the largest old people’s home in the Nordic countries and has places for over 800 residents. The home’s institutional care and hospital places will be modernised and turned into sheltered housing facilities to meet today’s needs.

“Koukkuniemi’s modernisation will meet the needs of elderly residents in today’s world, which is an important issue in Tampere as elsewhere, and will also represent a new approach in terms of the technology.The new building will meet the requirements of energy class A,” says Antti Lakka, Project Engineer at the City of Tampere’s Facilities Management.“The electrical contract makes up by far the biggest part of the building services in both buildings, so it is great that an expert contractor like Are will be responsible for this.”

The Koukkuniemi electrical contract is an important project for Are.The premises has classified medical treatment areas which will be equipped with modern treatment technology. The contract includes various alarm and monitoring systems in addition to the usual power distribution, lighting and information systems.Are will also provide and install reserve power and medium voltage distribution systems.

“The contract will be carried out in full by the installers at our Tampere unit, which will help us to meet our quality targets and make it easier to carry out the work as scheduled,” says Pepe Perkiö, Business Area Director of Are’s Building Services Contracting.
